Barkley Hill ACL Tear; Out for Season

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz announced Tuesday that freshman running back Barkley Hill and freshman defensive back Ruben Lile have suffered injuries during preseason practice that will keep them out of action in 2012.

“Barkley Hill’s knee injury during Saturday’s practice will require ACL reconstruction surgery later this week,” said Ferentz. “Ruben Lile suffered a similar injury earlier during camp and had successful surgery last week.”

Hill (6-foot, 210 pounds) is a native of Denver, Iowa who joined the Iowa program after a standout prep career at Cedar Falls HS. Lile (6-3, 200) attended Cass Technical HS in Detroit, Mich. Both Hill and Lile are first-year freshmen who will redshirt this season.

    There goes Nate Meier’s redshirt…

oh help us if we have to rely on Nate Meier to run the ball…Sam Brownlee ring any bells? haha

I know injuries can run in spurts, but there HAS to be a logical explanation for these RB injuries — it just defies all odds. If I’m Iowa’s (award winning) strength coach I would be taking it upon myself to visit schools who have a history of very few RB leg injuries and research their work-out and strength routines. Something is not right, and it’s fixable. I’d like to know what the Iowa staff is doing to change things up.

how do we get rid of Brian Ferentz’s taped interview?

I agree on the obvious pattern here but to blame Iowa’s strength and conditioning on Hill’s injury is a bit short sited. He hasn’t been in Iowa City long enough for a “bad” workout routine to have had any effect. It makes about as much sense to blame some curse…come to think of it.
Seriously, maybe it’s the way they practice. Several players have torn ACLs in practice (Hill, Lile, Canzeri).

These are very athletic positions that require very good agility in space at high speeds. It happens, it sucks, but they will come back stronger if rehabbed correctly. GO HAWKS!!
