Rafe Peavey is one of the nation’s top top rated four-star quarterbacks and he visited Iowa City on Wednesday.
Pat Harty of the Press-Citizen spoke with Rafe’s father and you can read the entire item and interview at this link.
Peavey, a Missouri native, was an Arkansas commit before the Razorbacks hired Bret Bielema. He is considering Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri and Ohio State at this time, according to Harty.
Peavey is an intruiging prospect at this stage of the Kirk Ferentz era. The Peavey’s have formed a good relationship with both Ferentz and Greg Davis, and Davis’s system would seem to work best with a quarterback who can do a thing or two with his legs, or at least be able to sell the keep on the read option look. Colt McCoy was not an elite runner but he could move the chains.
Iowa showed nothing but no huddle in April’s spring game plus plenty of shotgun, something that may be of interest to the Peavey’s. That said, we’ll see what Iowa choses to do come September and Rafe will have until February to sign his letter of intent.
Until then, the Hawkeyes are in the mix. Here is his highlight reel, nearly 20 minutes in length. He really shows a knack for keeping plays alive and looking downfield while he is evading the rush and after the pocket breaks down.
