Hawkeyes Land Defensive Back

The Iowa Hawkeyes received a verbal commitment from Washington, D.C. cornerback Omar Truitt on Monday evening, according to Scout.com.

Truitt was recently offered by Iowa and chose the Hawkeyes over offers from Maryland, Syracuse and Richmond. He is 5-10/180 pounds and told Scout that Iowa’s track record of developing defensive backs and seeing them make the NFL was one of the things that stood out to him about the program, in addition to how the fans love the program.

According to an article from Rob Howe at HawkeyeInsider.com, Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker was very interested and pleased with Truitt’s ability to jame and play physical at the line of scrimmage. Omar told Parker his father (Orlando) had taught him those skills. Orlando played in the NFL for six years.

Truitt becomes the fourth known player to commit to Iowa for their 2014 recruiting class. Check out some of his skills in the video below.
