Ten Disturbing Stats from the Clemson Game

1.) The 16 point loss (it wasn't that close).
2.) 5 assists for the team. Five. For the entire team. 5 assists; 10 turnovers.
3.) Iowa actually shot 2 more FGs than Clemson. The Tigers made 12 more.
4.) Gatens, Cartwright, Basabe, and May (4 out of the 5 starters) combined to shoot 5-29 from the field.
5.) Iowa forced 19 turnovers, but scored just 16 points off them. Clemson forced 10 turnovers, and scored 10 off them.
6.) Iowa had just 6 2nd chance points.
7.) Ed Hightower was allowed inside C-HA.
8.) Iowa only had 11 fouls on the night, but McCabe was tagged for 5 of them.
9.) Iowa made 16 more FTs than Clemson.
10.) Iowa shot 35% from the field in the second half, which was 12% BETTER than the first half.

    Bonus stats:
Iowa had 8 offensive boards on 40 missed shots. Clemson had 8 offensive boards on 26 missed shots.
Iowa missed 8 three pointers, but missed 32 shots INSIDE the arc.

Re: Ten Disturbing Stats from the Clemson Game

    Wasn't a pleasant night whatsoever....

[1] Surprised it was only a 16 point loss, although, not that it has any meaning, Ohio State handed #4 Duke a 22 point loss.....

[2] Cartwright missed Gatens and Oglesby in their spots, waiting for the ball uncovered, on occasion tonight. Have to hit those who are capable of scoring when they are open and in place. Bryce might have been forcing the issue a bit tonight.....

[4] Pitiful, would like to say it was just one of those games, but that has been said twice already....

[5] Highlight of the game for the Hawks was the D. Looked outstanding at times, but conversion was almost nonexistent tonight. It will not be like that all season. We will, at some point in time, take advantage of the turnovers.....

[7] Can't blame things on Hightower, but the refs certainly seem to be exercising their authority this season, taking flow and continuity completely out of the equation at times all too frequently.....

[8] Eleven fouls is outstanding, another and probably last highlight of the night for the Hawks. Sooner this game is left behind the better. For the fans that is, Fran has a lot of material to present to the troops.....

[9] My bad, another highlight. Sixteen more FTs than the opponent should win most games, hopefully this season that will occur.....

[10] Pitiful shooting, although the shots were there, just didn't fall tonight....

Missing 32 shots Inside the arc is not a good sign. There were good signs to be gleamed from the chaff tonight. Mostly the D, looked very good at times, if we could have converted, it would perhaps had led to more turnovers for the Tigers. Oglesby, White, McCabe and Marble looked good tonight with their intensity and effort, despite the shots not falling for anyone. The future is bright, especially considering the 2012 class licking their chops, waiting to arrive and excel.....

This team will get better, just wait, painfully, for it to happen....

Right now we are a very soft team on defense, we have no quality size, when McCabe is your best rebounder and most physical post player good luck! Brommer tries hard but should not be in the Big 10

On defense we allow teams to shoot 50% or better from 3 point range, we have no shot blocker, so we get killed in the paint by penetration or post up, or 2nd shots,

we are slow on the perimeter so we allow quicker guards to run what ever they want, on offense we really struggle creating shots off the dribble, even Fran said Clemson mugged us and we couldnt do anything about it,

Cartwright has been a huge disappointment so far, hope he can break out it, I think Marble, White and Ogelsby have the most potential but are still developing,

I know very negative but realistic, Fran really has his work cut out for him, next yr he should have more tools to work with

Last night's game can largely be capsulized in this Jerry Reed classic. Turn your speakers up to 11 and move on. Things will get better.

Re: Ten Disturbing Stats from the Clemson Game

The freethrow numbers are a big positive for the game. You left out the 8-2 advantage for Iowa in steals. Granted, I have a feeling 3-4 of those were in the last 5 minutes but it shows that Iowa is not turning the ball over. Same goes for the 18-10 advantage in turnovers. They did a good job of forcing the turnover but not giving it back. Too bad the points off turnover stunk.

Hard to get assists when nobody can make a basket.

The rebounding difference is horrendous. There was a lack of aggression from the Hawks last night when it came to rebounding. Ya gotta want the ball to get the ball.

The amount of open 3's teams have been getting is frightening. The zone is not working when it comes to defending the three ball. Fran needs to rethink the zone, I think. Shoulda recorded the game last night to get a better look at what they were doing.

As to the shooting, ummmm. . . They were getting good looks at the basket last night. They weren't forcing too many bad shots, a few down the stretch, but for the most part they were good shots. Don't know what to do about that really. They looked good early but once they started missing shots they couldn't stop missing. Something must be getting in their heads.

The Eddie Hightower "overturn" was the worst piece of officiating I have seen in a long, long time.

I'm really shocked Fran didn't get a T or get tossed on that "overturn". You could tell he held himself back quite a bit, he was ready to explode.

He must have taken it right up to the line. The camera shot showed him jawing at Fast Eddie and to lip-readers the language looked a little raw. Eddie kept looking back up the floor at the action but just as he turned towards the bench as if he had had enough Fran shut up. Thought he was going to get the T but he must have stopped just short.
